maybe

There is nothing rational about love.
There is nothing rational about the way I felt about you.
You were a handful, and because of that, I never became bored.
I fell in love with the idea of you.
I fell for your interest in music. Your hidden intelligence. Your humor. Your hair. Your carefree attitude.
I fell for these things and I emphasized them.
Just enough to look over your incompetence, your addictions, your lack of effort, your lack of ambition.
Maybe those things balanced out, or maybe I made them balance.
Maybe I just needed a distraction and I created one big enough to break my own heart.

a poem about being confused about how or why you fell for someone.
