pride

when we were best friends
she was all mine and likewise.
her last name reminded me
that sunshine can be seen on any day
and i’d buy her countless flowers
just to hear her say she loved them
but she loved me more.
then we’d complain about how
neither of us were boys
so we couldn't go any further
but we swore we’d live together forever
and build a farm and a garden
because we refused to marry men
since we were both gravely hurt.
we decided to create our joint heaven on earth
but now, all i have left are “open when” letters
and the memory of her laughter
because she would snort and i thought it was cute
then i unexpectedly subconsciously learned it too
and though she left me i never followed suit.
